PREVIEWING: REBELS v ROBINS - WEDNESDAY 16TH MAY

Tuesday May 15, 2018
Recently crowned Premiership League Riders Champion JASON DOYLE will be making his first appearance at the Oak Tree Arena since winning the title at Poole last week and immediately faces his former club and the man he beat into top spot, Swindon's Troy Batchelor

Deposed as SGB Premiership League leaders on Monday after a no-point defeat at Belle Vue, going down 40-50, Batchelor's Robins provide the next chapter in the 'Cases' Rebels 2018 season after they themselves failed to gain any reward from a spirited effort at Wolverhampton also on Monday night where they lost 38-52.

Team manager Garry May is eagerly looking forward to the contest against the Wiltshire outfit and will hope to oversee a performance by his side similar to that which gave the Rebels their first leg lead in the Knockout Cup encounter against Poole last time out at Highbridge.

"This is another derby match for us and it's always good to come out on top in such a fixture" said May, adding " I think we could be in for an exciting meeting against Swindon as in Nick Morris they have a rider who relishes riding our track and I am pretty certain that Troy Batchelor will be wanting to get one over Jason Doyle after last week's Premiership Riders championship result, but I am also sure that Jason will want to make his own statement on track after the Robins chose to let him go over the winter. That was a move that was great news for us as it meant that we could bring the world champion 'back home' and whilst Jason wants to win every race he goes out in I am sure it will be just a little more pleasing for him if he can bank a few on Wednesday!"

With Jonas Jeppesen still absent for the Rebels, May has called up Ashley Morris to guest at reserve whilst fellow reserve Bradley Wilson-Dean is another relishing the fixture. Having been part of the Robins' title winning side last season the New Zealander said "One of the first dates I looked for when the fixtures were published were the ones where we are against Swindon. I did enjoy riding for them last season but I simply love being here at Somerset and I am really keen to try and put something back into the club. They have treated me so well and made me feel so welcome, almost like a member of their own family and if I can help them to a victory over Swindon then I will be more than a little pleased".
