CUP FEVER RAGES AT OAKTREE

Tuesday May 01, 2018
The much awaited knockout cup quarter final between the 'Cases' Somerset Rebels and the Poole Pirates takes place at the OakTree Arena on Wednesday night, with the make-up of the two sides bringing extra spice to the meeting.

World champion Jason Doyle will be donning the Rebels number one race jacket that two of the visitors have proudly worn in the past - Josh Grajczonek and Brady Kurtz making returns to the OakTree, whilst the fixture also pitches Somerset's Jack Holder against his former club.

"There is a lot to ride for in this meeting" proclaimed team manager Garry May, "in fairness I don’t think either side have shown their true abilities yet in this stop and start season and putting in a good, solid performance would serve as a timely confidence boost to either. I am hoping that our lads can build on the good comeback they showed at Monday night against Belle Vue. We obviously will be looking for a nice decent lead to bank for the second leg but there is no doubt that they have riders who can perform around here."

The tie was originally due to be held on Good Friday but both fixtures became two of many postponements experienced by British speedway this season and the Rebels have only been able to fulfil one home meeting so far this term.

The Pirates celebrated 70 years of speedway last Thursday in a special challenge meeting against a select side riding under the banner of Yarmouth Bloaters - the Pirates first ever opponents. Garry May acted as manager of the Bloaters that were beaten 53-37 by the team from the town of his domicile "I couldn't manage to spoil their party last week so we will have to make sure the lads do so on Wednesday."
