REBELS V BELLE VUE PREVIEW

Tuesday May 30, 2017
The ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels will create another small piece of club history this Friday (2nd June) when the world famous Belle Vue Aces make their first-ever appearance at the Oaktree Arena to face the Rebels in an SGB Premiership fixture.

Despite 2017 being Somerset’s first season in the top flight of British Speedway, they have met all the other teams which comprise the Premiership in official fixtures, with Belle Vue being the only exception to that fact.

Belle Vue have had a good start to their league campaign, having only failed to secure league points on just one occasion this season, that being when Somerset pulled off a sensational win at the Aces’ National Speedway Stadium home at the beginning of May.

The Aces track a potentially formidable line-up, with among their ranks Max Fricke, the current Under-21 World Champion, while their captain, Craig Cook, is the holder of the Oaktree Arena track record, and in Dane Kenneth Bjerre, they have a previous holder of the Somerset track record.

With Somerset’s Bank Holiday Monday clash at Swindon falling foul of the weather, it means that it will have been nigh on two weeks since the team rode together as a unit, but team manager Garry May does not see that as too much of an issue;

“Whilst in an ideal world it might have been good if our recent new signings had got some more laps of the Oaktree Arena under their belts, but in saying that, they’ve all ridden here on many occasions in the past.”

“I don’t think that there will be any race rustiness amongst the boys as they all, with the exception of Jake Allen, have ridden elsewhere since our last meeting.”

“It goes without saying that we will be looking to kick-on now from that home win and make it two on the bounce come Friday’s match against Belle Vue. Our win against Rye House really lifted everyone at the Oaktree Arena, from the riders, right through to the fans, who got right behind the new boys in the team, so we will be looking to carry that new found confidence into Friday night’s match as we look to start climbing up that league table.”
