Friday March 31, 2017
Tonight (Friday 31st) will see the tapes officially rise on the 2017 season at the Oaktree Arena with the staging of the SGB Premiership Pairs championship.

And there is a line-up to saviour, with three of last season’s top 11 in the World Championship Grand Prix series competing, namely Chris Holder (King’s Lynn), who was the 2012 World Champion, Jason Doyle (Swindon), who rode for Somerset with such distinction in 2008, and again 2012 & 2013, and Wolverhampton’s Fredrick Lindgren.

Add to that the current British Champion, recent Leicester signing Danny King, and the 4-time Australian Under-21 Champion, Max Fricke, and with the ‘Cases’ Rebels being represented by Rohan Tungate and new signing Patrick Hougaard, for whom the meeting will mark his home debut for the Rebels, it is clear to see that this is a star-studded meeting not to be missed!

“It will be good to finally get the season underway,” said Somerset team manager Garry May, “and with a major trophy there for the winning, season starts don’t get any more exciting than this.”

“It will be a good test for both Rohan and Patrick as we look forward to our first ever season competing in the top flight of British speedway, and hopefully there will be a good crowd at the Oaktree Arena for this mouth-watering start to 2017.”

Gates at the Oaktree Arena open at 6pm, with the pre-meeting rider parade scheduled for 7.00pm and tape’s up on heat 1 at 7.30pm.
